Johnathan Turner is a graduate of Georgia State University where he earned a BMus in Jazz Studies. During his time at GSU, he was fortunate enough to be able to play with and attend masterclasses directed by such luminaries as Rez Abassi, Jimmy Heath, and David Sanchez. His primary instructors have been David J. Frackenpohl and Mike Krajewski. As a musician, John's interests run the gamut from jazz, avant-garde, classical, rock, and hip hop. His compositions have been played by various ensembles at Georgia State University, Kennesaw State University, and Lee University as well as host of venues in the metro Atlanta area. In addition to acoustic music, John enjoys electronic music and is adept at several software synthesis programs including CSound, Pure Data, Max/MSP, Logic, Ableton Live, and Open Music. In his effort to further himself as an educator, he is currently working on an instructional text for guitar as well as collaborating on a soon to be published book about software synthesis. When not making or listening to music, he enjoys photography, reading, movies, and standup comedy.
